Here are two things to know about me:
1. I’m a perfectionist.
2. I make mistakes. A lot.
I can’t count the number of times I have a kitchen mishap where something doesn’t go how I think it would. In cooking it’s easy to make that up by adding new ingredients. In baking it usually ends up in the trash.
I underestimated how much peanut butter and butter these crispy treats needed. The first time I refrigerated them, they fell apart as soon as I cut in. I had to sweep a few rice crisps off the floor and redo the process, remixing the batter. I don’t think it was as good as if I got it all right from the start. I even debated whether to still serve these, but I’m glad I did because they got two thumbs way up at a party over the weekend. This recipe reflects the fixed version. And you can’t bet I’ll be making these the right way one day soon; what kind of perfectionist would I be otherwise?
Chocolate Peanut Butter Rice Crispy Treats
Ingredients:
- 6 cups cocoa crispy rice cereal
- 1 1/2 cups no-stir peanut butter, divided
- 1 cup Fluff(or marshmallow crème)
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 cup chocolate chips
Method:
- In a large bowl, melt 1 cup of peanut butter along with the butter until it’s runny. Mix until the two are combined.
- Add in the cereal and Fluff and mix until the cereal is completely coated by the wet ingredients. Press the cereal into a 9 x 13 baking pan.
- Melt the remaining peanut butter and chocolate together and mix. Pour evenly over the tray of cereal. Refrigerate until set.
- Cut into even squares and keep cold until serving.
One of our family friends loves to bake but somehow always messed up the recipe – either left it in the oven too long, missed an ingredient, or something else along the way. Everything was a big “Oops!” – “oops, fudgy brownies with extra vanilla”, “oops, extra crispy chocolate chip cookies”… Somehow, it still always turned out delicious. We told her if she ever opened a bakery should could call it “Oops!, a bakery.”
Perfectionists unite 🙂
perfect! i love that cereal.
chocolate & pb, that’s all I needed to hear 🙂
Evan…these look good! Today’s post of mine was choc chip cookie dough & marshmallow stuffed rice krispie bars w/ choc frosting. Sometimes I do PB frosting but these were just straight choc.
I am the BIGGEST R K Treats fan!!!!!
This post made me completely crave anything chocolate, and sadly, all the treats I made over the weekend are gone! To the grocery store I go. 🙂
I feel ya on both points. I love how I can make myself laugh every time I screw up though. These little treats look great even if they are a patched version 🙂
I think I’d like Fluff a lot better if I could lick it out of the jar easier.
Can’t get marshmallow creme of any description here, but luckily I have both normal-marshmallow and non-marshmallow versions of this recipe that I could co-opt to your peanut butter standards. Hurrah!
Peanut Butter + Chocolate = WINNER!!! 😀 These sound amazing!! 😀
We have something similar in Australia which none of my friends or co-workers here in missouri had heard of till I made it.
It’s rice krispies, melted milky ways, butter and chocolate.
In australia we call them Mars Bar slice because a mars bar there is an american milky way. (BTW an Australian Milky way is an american three musketeers.) If anyone wants a recipe just look up mars bar slice on google. It’s amazing.

I just made them (today is Wednesday) but will not be serving them until Friday. Should I keep them in the refrigerator or out at room temperature until then?
Thank you
I would keep them in the refrigerator and take them out an hour or 30 minutes before you eat them.
Will do. Thank you!
