I spent Saturday in Boston with three awesome bloggers and didn’t take a single picture. Oops. At least they were snap happy. Photo courtesy of Tina.
I think Boston is the best city in the world. Having worked there and gone to school there, I miss it all the time. Maybe it’s the people; maybe it’s the atmosphere; but probably it’s because it’s the only city I can use the public transportation in without getting lost… much.
As part of my marathon training, I ran/walked 20 miles in 3:30:17 and hated every minute of it. Countless times I thought of throwing in the towel until at mile 15 a crazy homeless woman named Mary told me to “use it or lose it.” So I kept on using it until I was done. Mary also offered me a cigarette; as generous as that was, I don’t think it’s part of my training plan.
At mile 5 I stopped right in the middle of the path, stripped off my running tights, threw back on my shorts and stuffed the tights in my pocket for the rest of the run. Runners. Yeah, we’re different.
The night after my long run, I ate my favorite dinner: Carbs with a side of potatoes. Again no picture because I was a bad blogger that day.
I also sat down with the last of the microwave fudge and ate it all from the pan. You’re allowed to do that on days you run 20 miles.
Past Sunday Confessionals:
I like to take weekend trips to Boston, but I don’t think I would live there. Very, very fun to explore everything though 🙂
I’m gonna have to start training for another race so I can eat things like microwave fudge!
Congrats on the 20 miles! Don’t worry, it can only get easier from here!
Haha, I feel the EXACT same way about Boston and the transit system!
Rock on with those 20 miles – nice job!
Great job on the twenty miler!!!
ah, i need to experience boston again. the one time i went it was pouring rain. boo. be my tour guide?
glad you got to see the girls!
I have always wanted to visit Boston! Mostly to try Flour Bakery’s legendary banana bread… is it as good as it’s repped up to be?
I’ve never been to Flour unfortunately. I never started hearing about them until after I left. I wish I had gone before I knew I can’t eat gluten.
:(:( They should make some sort of tablet for people to eat before they eat gluten… sort of like the ones for lactose-intolerant people!
As a blogger, I sometimes love not taking photos. So refreshing! It’s nice to have a little mystery in life.
I have only been to Boston once and loved it 🙂 I don’t have a camera right now (broke mine) so I take pictures with my macbook.
It’s fine, that’s what I do for dinner every time I exercise. We deserve it!
I love that she offered you a cigarette! Hilarious. Congrats on the 20 miles! I set out to do 20 yesterday but threw in the towel at 15.5. I need a homeless woman to motivate me.
What an awesome day!
And running 20 miles AND following it up w/ a pan of fudge…both great things 🙂
Cigarettes are supposed to be really helpful on 20 mile runs, didn’t you know that? Mary was just trying to help 🙂
I have fond memories of running 20 miles, making a family-sized pan of enchiladas and devouring the entire thing myself. I would have liked some of that fudge to end the meal!
Agreed that Boston is an awesome city! I wouldn’t move from this area for anything :).
Confession:
Husband and I started the day with ten cake batter baked doughnuts. Now we have four.
Yes, the two of us ate a HALF dozen doughnuts.
My husband used to work in Boston all the time. He always loved it!
You go boy with your marathon training! And vaseline on the inner thighs… answers some serious questions I had! 😀
That hotel room is super swanky!! I love the green!!
Uh… how I managed to publish that comment here when I thought I had closed this window and it was meant to go http://couchpotatoathlete.wordpress.com/2011/03/06/back-to-normal-life/ instead is beyond me. Studying the nervous system is frying my brain today. HAPPY SUNDAY! lol 🙂
Lol, It’s OK. I’ve been studying the Aeneid and Theogony for this week. At this point, reading English fries my brain.
WTG on the run! Wow. Do you have a race coming up?
Also – you said you “did” go to school in Boston? Have you graduated already?! I thought you still went to school…?
This post makes me want to take up running, because I do things like eat halfa batch of fudge at least once a week… but I do no exercise to justify it. Sigh.
Those long training can really knock your socks off, but it’s taper time now! Eat plenty of fudge and enjoy the rest.
Congrats on your 20 MILES!!!! Yes, eating brownies straight from the pan is totally acceptable! 😉
xoxo

I love Boston too!
