Banana desserts have never been the most desirable; you always make them when your bananas are browned and dying as a last resort. I didn’t want that sort of recipe. I wanted the kind of recipe that makes you go out and buy bananas just to make it. And I think I’ve found that.
Banana Blondies With Chocolate Chips
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup butter, softened(or Earth Balance)
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar
- 1 cup(8 oz) mashed banana puree(about 2 large bananas)
- 1/4 cup chocolate chips
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
Let butter soften for about an hour before starting the recipe. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Cream together the butter and brown sugar. Next, add in the banana puree, chocolate chips, vanilla, and salt and mix together.
Lastly, add in the flour and mix until just incorporated. Spread the batter evenly in an 8×8 baking pan and bake for 40 minutes, or until the center has set and the edges are slightly browned.
I’ll admit that these were so easy I was a little worried how they’d come out. Could they rise? Hold their structure? They did. They were nice and soft and a little moist—perfect blondies. And the chocolate chips added just enough bitterness to contrast the salty/sweet base.
Tomorrow’s lesson: Frosting!
Yum! Bookmarking it!
Looks good! They rose well without a leavening agent?
YUM! Ya gotta love quick easy and tasty treats!
I love a simple recipe… this looks delicious… is there a frosting on them?
Yes, it’s a chunky peanut butter frosting. I’ll be posting the recipe tomorrow.
gah you always show me up! i just made banana choc chip muffins. blondies win 😛
what kind of flour did you use?
I used Bob’s Red Mill’s All-Purpose Gluten-Free Baking Blend. This is my go-to gluten-free flour.

i love it when a banana recipe makes me want to go buy bananas! these look so luscious!
I love this recipe!!! I actually just yesterday posted a huge post about what to do with those ripe bananas. It organized all my recipes for using bananas and I admit I would never buy bananas just to eat one. But I may let them go overripe just to make this 🙂
Easy, vegan and GF. Perfect 🙂
If it wasnt HWeen week, I’d be making your fudge. But we are already inundated with candy!
HELLO BLONDIES!
yes. frosting. i want. send me a pan of these? mmmkay? thanks!
You had me at chocolate chips. Looks awesome. Saving this.
I wish I’d seen these before I froze my super ripe bananas this morning!
I can’t say that I like white meat or dark meat better. It depends on the recipe for me. For instance, I love grilled BBQ chicken breasts (white meat) but I like shredded chicken thighs (dark meat) in my tacos!
Sounds wonderful. Love chocolate and bananas together and actually prefer blondies over brownies so, yes a total winner in my book :o)
These look yummy! Banana in a blondie sounds like a great idea :)!
Yum! Luckily, I have a bunch of black bananas sitting on the counter right now! They were going into bread, but…
I knew I should have bought chocolate chips when I was at the store today… looks like I’ll be going back tomorrow!
Love blondies, love bananas, love chocolate.. yup. I think I’d like this 🙂
Do you send care packages?
You beat me with these blondies – they’re FABULOUS!

These look wonderful. My son is diabetic as well as has celiac. Do you have the nutritional value (especially carbohydrates) for these or can you recommend a cookbook that does?
Hi, Deb. I plugged the ingredients into a nutrition website, nutritiondata.com, for the blondies without the frosting when cut into 9 servings and posted it here: http://www.thewannabechef.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/Untitled.png.
It’s only a rough estimate because I couldn’t enter the ingredients exactly but I would guess that it’s pretty close.
Hi:
Thanks for the website to check on nutrition data and also for the carb data for this recipe. I’ll try this recipe today! I appreciate this information and will pass the website on to other diabetic friends. You’re the best!
[…] Yes please. Brownies? Eh, I’d rather have blondies. And that’s when I came upon Evan’s recipe! Banana blondies with chocolate chips. I could handle that. A mostly banana flavor with flecks […]
Do you think these could be made with coconut flour? And if so, what would the equivalent measurement be?
I’ve only ever tried it with all-purpose gluten-free flour and I can’t really say how it’d turn out with coconut flour.
Just made these and they love them. Put some cinnamon and cinnamon chips instead of choc chips.
MINES DIDN’T RISE PLUS IT WASN’T EVEN MOIST. IT WAS FLAT AND DIDN’T TASTE THAT GOOD. NEVER MAKING THIS AGAIN!

Have to say these turned out very disappointing. They didn’t rise at all.
would love to have the recipe for the frosting. Thanks
Hi Ruby, here is the frosting recipe http://www.thewannabechef.net/2010/10/26/peanut-butter-frosting/
I whipped these up using self-rising flour, just-ripe bananas and 1/2 cup op chopped up bitter chocolate and they turned out very nicely. Very moist, and great flavor. They didn’t rise very high, but that was okay. Nice recipe! Thanks for sharing it!
