The last time I made raw brownies, I didn’t share the recipe. I wasn’t planning on it this time, either, but these came out so well I felt I’d be holding out if I didn’t share them.
These almonds from Trader Joe’s are incredibly addicting; I’m pretty sure they’re all gone by now. Anything with chocolate and salt and I can’t stop snacking. Why not make some brownies with the same mix-ins?
The almond butter in these brownies make them a little more fudgy and decadent than your typical date bars. You can use any type of nuts you have on hand.
Raw Salted Almond Brownies
Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 0 minutes
Ingredients(Makes a dozen brownies):
- 16oz pitted dates
- 1/4 cup raw almond butter
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1/3 cup almonds
- 1/2 teaspoon coarse sea salt
Method:
- Put the dates in a food processor and blend until they stick together into a ball of dough. If the dates haven’t come together after a few minutes, add a tablespoon or so of water until they do.
- Add in the cocoa powder and almond butter and continue blending until they are mixed into the dough.
- Add in the almonds and sea salt. Pulse until the almonds are broken up into pieces.
- Turn off the food processor and move the mixture to a different bowl. Work it with your hands until all of the ingredients are well mixed together and the almonds stick in the batter.
- Turn the dough out onto a piece of parchment paper and press with your hands into a square shape roughly 9×9. Cut into 12 pieces. Store in a sealed container at room temperature when not eating.
These are particularly good with some salty peanut butter spread on top as a snack or dessert. Next time I think I’ll use the chocolate covered almonds in the brownie dough assuming I don’t eat them all first again.
I saw those almonds at TJ’s the other day and thought about getting them, but knew they’d disappear instantly! sounds delicious!
These sound amazing. Salty sweet desserts may be trendy but I hope they don’t go out of style anytime soon.
Well, aren’t I glad I found you! Beautiful photos, recipes and attitude!
Raw vegan brownies were THE FIRST recipe I ever posted on my blog. Oh, the memories.
These look amazing. I will always love raw choc brownies!
I never would have thought to add some nut butter. I’m all about texture and I bet that would add a great one.
I’ve always been intrigued by these raw dessert recipes, but I’ve never actually tried one, which is funny because I absolutely LOVE dates. I think I may just pick some up the next time I’m at the store so that I can try this recipe. Thanks so much for sharing!
Yum– looks like a really moist larabar!
I liked the instructions at the end… “when not eating” … I bet it’s hard to stop eating these, they look so good! I am definitely trying these tomorrow!
I remember buying those Trader Joe’s almonds when I went to DC in 2007 to vote at the Australian Embassy in our federal elections, and having my mind blown.
Thank you for providing me with a way to remember their deliciousness through awesomeness 🙂
Mmmm…those look AMAZING!
New-to-raw-dessert-making-question: Doesn’t the “dough” stick to your hands a lot?
Not usually. If all you’re working with is dried fruit and nuts, it’s almost impossible too get a dough that’s too wet. if anything it sticks to itself.
Yummy! These look delicious and SERIOUSLY healthy! I’ve been afraid of dates for too long. I have to get some now!
These look so yummy and delicious!
These look amazing. Genius Snack, Yum! I probably wouldn’t share either lol
These sound incredible. I too can never get enough of salt nd sweet!
I love raw brownies – and chocolate covered almonds. This is perfect. Also, gotta get my hands on those trader joe’s sweets. O. M. G.
I just made these and they were awesome. I actually just rolled them into balls, and sprinkled some extra himalayan salt on top. YUM! Thanks!!
Made little balls and plopped a bit of peanut butter in them and COULD NOT stop eating! These are wonderful but dangerous for me 😛
These are yum….but destroyed my blender. It seems that blending a heap of dates is a whole lot of work for a blender and mine didn’t rise to the challenge 🙁
My processor almost broke too, it over heating and then stopped working, but it was so good at the end.
